How Florida thinks about cremation
In Florida, where about 72.5%[1] of people are cremated, most families have collected an urn from a funeral home at some point and have a picture of how it goes. A horse's return is heavier and slower. Expect a sizable container rather than a small box, a longer wait than for a dog, and possibly a drive to pick it up. Knowing that ahead of time avoids a jolt on the day.

Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Cocoa Beach?
Usually yes. Merritt Island is about 3 miles away, Cape Canaveral is about 5 miles away and Rockledge is about 7 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 49 miles from Cocoa Beach) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.

Ask your vet whether they know of a payment plan, and whether a rescue or a vet school program operates nearby. Whatever you choose, save some tail hair and a shoe before collection.
What happens to my horse if I choose rendering?
A renderer collects the body and processes it at high heat into materials such as meal and fats. Renderers have served horse owners for 100+ years[9], but fewer plants now accept horses. Nothing is returned, so save keepsakes first. It's usually the lowest-cost option, which matters when the nearest crematory is far from Cocoa Beach.
