Horse Cremation in Dubai: what to know
If you keep a horse in Dubai, two things shape aftercare: distance and ground. Distance decides what a crematory or collector charges and how soon they can come; ground decides whether a truck can reach your horse and whether burial is even possible. Both change with the seasons, so a plan that works in summer may not work in winter.
In Dubai, four contacts cover almost every situation: your equine vet, the agriculture department or extension office that sets burial and composting rules, your barn manager if you board, and one provider with a chamber big enough for a horse. Pin all four numbers by the feed room door. The city pages below help you find providers near Dubai and Emirates Hills and beyond.

Cremation in Dubai, and where horses fit
Horse aftercare rarely follows the customs people use for their own families. It follows geography. In Dubai, the first job is to find out which large-animal services exist within reach, how they collect and what they charge; the more personal questions, like whether to keep the ashes or scatter them, can wait until later.
What horse cremation costs in Dubai
Ask for any quote near Dubai in writing, in local currency, itemized into collection, cremation and container, and ask whether a deposit is expected. A provider who can cremate a horse individually should be able to tell you how your horse is identified throughout, and whether you'll receive a certificate.
Where no equine crematorium exists near Dubai, most owners choose burial on rural land with hired machinery, or a local collection service. As a rough guide from US figures, machine hire for a horse grave has been reported at $250-$500[2]. Ask your vet what's normal locally, because costs and customs can be very different.
| Option | US reference cost | What comes back |
|---|---|---|
| Individual cremation (about 450 kg horse) | $600-$1,000[1], plus transport | Your horse's ashes |
| Carcass collection (rendering) | $75-$200[3] | Nothing returned |
| Burial with hired machinery | $250-$500[2] | A grave on your land |

Before anyone digs: the rules in Dubai
Before anyone digs, check the rules for Dubai. Burying a large animal commonly comes with conditions on soil cover, clearance above groundwater and setbacks from wells, streams and property lines, and counties or councils can add their own. A horse grave is big, around 9 ft deep[5] under US extension guidance, so the site matters as much as the permission.
In the UAE, the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory lists equine and camel cremation as a distinct service, alongside pet cremation with ash return and witnessed options. For a horse, sort out transport and the exact collection point separately from the memorial decision, and say clearly whether you want the ashes returned, your horse cremated alone, or to attend.
Step by step, from the field to the urn
- Stay safe first. Sudden movement is still possible after a collapse, so ask everyone to stand well clear until the vet has confirmed the death.
- Call your equine vet, using the emergency line after hours, however certain you feel. A vet confirms the death and talks you through the next decisions.
- Save your keepsakes now: cut a length of tail from underneath, a lock of mane, and pull a shoe if you'd like one. Take off the halter.
- Cover the body using a sheet or tarpaulin. Give the other horses a short time with their friend, then move them and any other animals away.
- Call a collection service or crematory and describe the access: gate width, ground conditions and how close a truck can get.
- Ask for a written total, with collection, cremation and the container listed separately, and confirm your horse will be cremated alone.
- Tell the barn or your neighbors when the truck is due, so gates are open and other horses are inside.
Keeping your horse's memory close to home
Many owners scatter most of their horse's ashes over a favorite field or along a trail they rode together, and keep a small urn for the house. With around 38.5 lb[6] of ashes from an 1,100 lb horse on our estimate, there's usually enough for several riders or family members to keep a little too.

Questions people ask
What if my horse dies in the heat?
Call for collection straight away, cover the body with a light-colored tarp and keep other animals away. A horse can't be cooled like a small pet, so same-day pickup matters. In Dubai, the hottest place we cover in Dubai, summer highs average about °F, and prompt collection is essential there.
Should I plan ahead for an older horse?
It helps a great deal. Choose a provider now, check that a truck can reach your barn in every season, note your budget and whether you want the tail and a shoe saved, and leave the plan with whoever cares for your horse day to day. Horses aged 20 and over have the highest yearly death rate in USDA data, 3.1%[7].
Are horses treated like pets under the rules in Dubai?
Not always. Many countries and provinces place horses under livestock or hobby-animal rules rather than pet rules, which affects burial, collection and paperwork. Ask your equine vet which pathway applies to your horse before you choose a provider, and check with your local council or authority before any burial.
Is there an equine crematory in Dubai?
There may be one or more, but large-animal chambers are few and far apart, and the nearest to your farm may be across a state or regional border. Tell us where your horse is and we'll look for providers that can take a full-size horse and reach you, wherever they're based.
