Jakarta, Indonesia
Where horses live around Jakarta, and why it matters
Jakarta has an international equestrian venue, riding clubs and horses on the city's edge, and livestock is kept across the wider region, especially toward Bogor and the countryside of West Java and Banten. Around Eid al-Adha, goats and cattle are also brought into the city for sacrifice. If a large animal dies, share the location, the road access and whether a vehicle with a winch can reach it.
Heat and humidity mean a large body in Jakarta must be moved quickly, and rainy-season flooding can make roads impassable. If you keep an older horse, goat, cow or sanctuary animal on the fringe of the city, it helps to ask in advance which providers can handle large animals and whether individual cremation is possible, or whether burial on your land is more practical.
Traffic matters more than people expect. A winch truck coming from a crematory well outside Jakarta may have to cross half the metro, and some providers only run into the suburbs on set days or charge extra for weekend calls. Ask for a price from the barn's exact address and for a realistic arrival window, so you can plan the vet's visit around it rather than leaving your horse waiting.
Jakarta is home to about 10,560,000 people.
6.6 million[1]
There were an estimated 6.6 million horses in the United States in 2023, down from 7.2 million in 2017.
$600-$1,000[2]
Cremating a 1,000-pound horse was reported to cost about $600-$1,000, depending on location and the price of propane.
3-5% of body weight[3]
Embrace notes cremated remains typically weigh about 3-5% of the pet's original body weight.

What owners in Indonesia tend to choose
Whatever the local traditions, horse owners tend to face the same decision: bring something home, or let the body go with dignity to a collector and keep a tail braid and a shoe. Both are loving choices. In Jakarta, the right answer mostly depends on distance, cost and what the local rules allow.
Planning around the Jakarta calendar
Ask every provider the same question: what happens if you can't reach my horse? Good ones will have an answer, such as a longer winch cable, a tracked machine or asking you to have a tractor ready. Hearing it in advance tells you whether their truck will actually suit your land, whatever the weather that week.

Horse aftercare prices for Jakarta owners
Ask any provider three things before you compare prices: can you take a full-size horse individually, what does collection from our stable cost, and in what container will the ashes come back? The US figures below are a reference only; local prices can be quite different.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Indonesia: Indonesia costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Burial and disposal rules in Indonesia
Many owners assume that because it's their land, they can do what they like for their horse. Usually they can, within limits. In Indonesia those limits typically cover burial depth, distance from water and wells, and timing. Renting or boarding changes things again, because the landowner's permission comes first.
Who to call, and in what order
- Stay safe first. Sudden movement is still possible after a collapse, so ask everyone to stand well clear until the vet has confirmed the death.
- Call your equine vet, using the emergency line after hours, however certain you feel. A vet confirms the death and talks you through the next decisions.
- Save your keepsakes now: cut a length of tail from underneath, a lock of mane, and pull a shoe if you'd like one. Take off the halter.
- Cover the body with a tarp or sheet, and keep other animals away once your horse's companions have had a few minutes.
- Call a collection service or crematory and describe the access: gate width, ground conditions and how close a truck can get.
- Ask for a written total that shows pickup, cremation and container as separate lines, and check that your horse is cremated on its own.
- Tell the barn or your neighbors what time to expect the truck, so someone has unlocked the gates and brought the other horses in.
Tail braids, shoes and scattering the ashes
Many large animals around Jakarta belong to riding clubs, small farms, educational parks or rescue groups rather than big operations. For a family animal, ask whether individual cremation with ashes returned is possible. For farm stock, agricultural disposal or burial is more common. Be clear about which applies, and check any local rules on burying large animals before choosing that route.

Questions people ask
Is there a horse crematory near Jakarta?
There may not be one close by. Large-animal chambers are expensive to build and run, so they cluster where there are enough horses to keep them busy, and owners near Jakarta often deal with a provider an hour or more away. Some run collection routes on set days. Tell us your address and we'll look for equine-capable providers that reach you, including any across a county or state line.
Is horse cremation available near Jakarta?
Sometimes, but not always. Many pet crematoria are sized for dogs and cats, not a 450 kg horse. Riding clubs, racing stables and equine vets usually know what large-animal options exist locally. Ask specifically whether a provider can take a horse individually, how collection works and whether the ashes are returned to you.
Do equine hospitals near Jakarta arrange cremation?
Many do. If your horse dies or is put to sleep at a referral clinic, staff can usually call their regular provider and hold your horse for a short time. You can still choose a different crematory or collector; just say so quickly, because clinics can't keep a horse for long. Ask for the provider's name and the price in writing.
How long until I get my horse's ashes back?
Longer than for a small pet. The burn phase alone takes at least 4.4 hours[5] for an 1,100 lb horse on our estimate, followed by a long cool-down and processing. Around Jakarta, distance and scheduled delivery routes add time too. Ask for an expected return date and whether the ashes will be delivered or need collecting.
Should I be there when my horse is loaded onto the truck?
You can, but many owners choose not to. Loading uses a winch and takes a few minutes, and it can be hard to watch. A common approach is to say goodbye, cover your horse, then let a friend or the barn manager stay with the driver. If you do want to be there, tell the provider beforehand and they'll talk you through what happens.
Can I be present at my horse's cremation near Jakarta?
Some large-animal crematories allow owners to attend the start of the cremation or to spend time with their horse before it, but not all can, and the drive may be long. Ask when you first call, and ask what attending involves, since loading into a large chamber uses machinery. Many owners prefer to say goodbye at home and simply be told when it's done.
